Aloha! Que pasa? Happy Fat Tuesday!
Ohh Ahh, screamed the monkeys at 4:30 this morning. We were up and running for breakfast at around 7:30 A.M. We had a delicious meal consisting of One-Eyed Jacks with cheese on top, delicious fruit, and wonderful, crispy biscuits! We then set off on a beautiful beach hike on the Tamales beach. We walked about two kilometers down to the reefs. While we were walking we stopped to watch Adonis, our guide who can speak about many fluent languages including Hebrew which he learning now and French, Italian, Japanese, English, Spanish, and German, climb a coconut tree bear-footed to cut down coconuts for us to try. Many enjoyed the coconuts and many did not. I, Alex, could not put my finger on the taste on the coconut milk. When we got to the reefs, we scuba dived, swam in the ocean, and looked for many creatures, including octopi, sea horses, lobster, starfishes, and many more. What an experience! It was gorgeous. About an hour and a half later, we headed back to the lodge to take another twenty minute hike through the jungle. We all tried some nutritious termites. Many enjoyed these live creatures. They tasted like carrots! We then hopped back to consume a delicious lunch consisting of macaroni and cheese and vegetables made by the one and only, Laura Marx. It was scrumdiddilyomptious! The crew then had to waddle to their cabinas to pack up there stuff to head home. It was very hard to pack up. We also had to say goodbye to a dear friend of ours, Adonis.
Tonight we are planning on having a grand Mardi Gras party, a talent show, and a delicious dinner of hamburgers and fries. Hope everyone is staying warm while we are reapplying sunscreen about every twenty minutes so we do not burn. Be safe and see everyone sooner than later!
Lots of love,
Daniel Lantz and Alex Britt
P.S. We will be home closer than you know it! Also, tomorrow will be an early one. The bus will be rolling out of the jungle at 5:30 A.M. to get to San Jose . It is an eight hour bus ride! Wish us safe travels and that nobody is under the weather like Curran today!
Alex, you have had coconut milk before, but I doubt that it was as sweet as the coconut milk you tried today. Termites? No way! I will believe it when I see you eat ants here at home!
ReplyDeleteCelebrate and have a great time tonight!! And, get contact information from your friends down there so you can stay in touch. We all miss you guys back here in frigid Cincinnati!! But, the weather is supposed to warm up a bit later this week. Regardless, it will be much colder than what you have enjoyed the last week or so. Be safe and enjoy the rest of the trip. Tell Curly Murray to hurry up and get better.
Con orders you to get well now or you will not enjoy the plane ride.
ReplyDeleteSorry you're sick baby girl! Come home to mom.
Love and miss you!
Avery- Did you buy me some cool Costa Rican Jammies! (CRJ's)- Sounds like you and everybody are having a great time.Love you Dad.
ReplyDeleteDaniel,
ReplyDeleteDid you REALLY eat termites??? I was hoping you would expand your taste buds but this is amazing! I received an e-mail from Aunt Joanie and she told me to tell everyone the blog is awesome, It's hard to believe you are getting ready to come home. But be warned, Cincinnati is still coming out of a deep freeze. I finally was able to open my car doors today. It is supposed to be much warmer by the time you arrive at the airport. But you all have been very spoiled for 9 days.
Live it up and celebrate on your last night. You can sleep on the bus!!
Take care and stay safe.
Love you,
Mom (Nanci)
Maybe Curran should lay off those tasty termites for awhile! Ask Adonis for some of that healing tree milk before a long bus ride.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your last morning with the howler monkeys (for those of you missing those sounds in the morning after you get home, the twins are for rent!). As for the three course morning meals, I can't speak for the other 15 families, but as of tomorrow, they are a thing of the past for Avery (unless you're cooking, Aves!). Savor every morsel!
Talent Show -I know you've planned for some very special Frozen music (perhaps to ease yourselves back into your native climate); I hope you girls sing "Let It Go" as well as Adele Dazeem at the Oscars. Long Story! #JohnTravoltaFlub
Avery - feel free to do lots of laundry tomorrow night at the hotel. I'm pretty sure you forgot to take big trash bags with you, even though I reminded you ____times!
Oh, and you'll be THRILLED to know that, thanks to the snow, this is the volleyball season that never ends. You will be back in time to accompany us to Reilly's game on FRIDAY night, at 8:00 at St. Theresa in Liberty Township. A mere 40 minute drive. Awesome sauce!
Annaliese: Mr. Walter saw your dad at Andrew's basketball practice tonight, no rest for the weary. He said that he missed you all and was really sad he couldn't give into your persuasive charms and stay a few extra days. I think he's off to California in the morning!
Claudia: Good luck on the bus tomorrow - I hear that's not your preferred mode of travel :(
Cate, Meme and Merritt: As you are used to picking up the pieces of Avery that end up everywhere she touches, please make sure she doesn't leave something like her camera, phone or passport behind! Much appreciated.
Glad you didn't eat the chaperones and you let the boys have a tiny, little voice on the blogs- can't wait to hear all about it in person! Sounds like Mrs. Marx is in her element cooking and feeding a crew!
Miss you all - we CAN'T WAIT for the reunion and fully narrated slide show and Go Pro production once you return so we can all feel like we were there!
On a serious note, as tomorrow is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent, you might want to think about something that you can leave behind in Costa Rica. Think of some negative trait or tendency that you gave up willingly during this fabulous adventure and see if you can leave it behind for good. Whether it's a fear, a misconception, an unwillingness to try new things, an apprehension of the unknown, distrust of others, etc.: think of some small thing that can stay in Costa Rica and you can give up for the rest of Lent. There might be some challenges once you return, but I'm guessing that at the end of 40 days, it will be gone for good. I'll hop down off my soapbox now.
Miss you all! Safe travels!
Mom/Mrs. Walter/Kari
