Hello Cincinnati!

HEY HEY HEYYYY
While you guys are getting  the cold and icy stuff we got a taste of the wet stuff. This morning at 4:30 A.M. everyone was wide awake. A mini tropical storm swept through the area and dumped lots of water. Most people fell back to sleep, while other were awake for the day. After the few that went back to sleep woke up, everyone joined for a delicious breakfast made by Jackie, but inspired by Rosemary. Breakfast included pancakes with chocolate syrup, Bob Evans sausage, and fresh fruit. Following breakfast, Tim was in for a surprise. While talking to Greg,  a monkey decided to dump its poop on Tim’s head, EWWW.  After Tim’s got cleaned up we headed to the town of Puerto Jimenez. Greg spotted a cyclone and Laura and Marvin (bus driver) were on storm patrol. Thank goodness for Laura. When we arrived to the town library we met Ifi. She is the head of ASCONA (asconacr.org) *Feel free to make a donation, it is much needed and appreciated* ASCONA is an organization that helps the people of the OSA. We helped the community by participating in the beautification of the village. We also toured the local school and dropped off donated soccer uniforms. Hopefully next year’s group may see some kids running around in St. Mary uniforms. We then headed to the beautiful Iguana Lodge. Some headed straight to the beach while others went to the luxurious pool. The waves were HUGE. We all had a variety of different lunch options. From fresh fish to chicken fingers, we all managed to squeeze at least 10 orders of fries. Literally. Following lunch we had mini photo shoot on the shore. We all were dying to go back into town to buy our Imperial shirts and little souvenirs. You will love them. Once all of our bags were in the bus, we headed back to Morgan’s Lodge. Dinner was later than usual because we were all so full from our delicious lunch. Aunt Randy cooked up a make- your-our burrito bar that we all devoured. Currently, Rose is belting some Wicked songs and brownies are in the oven.  We had a wonderful day today and hope that you liked reading about it.  We’ll keep you posted with more comments.  Love and miss you, but we’re not looking forward to leaving and coming back to cold weather.  Buenos Noches!
Avery, Kate, Sam

P.S. Since our weather people in Cincy like to name storms….we named ours “tropical storm gigante"

  1. Hi Rose and friends! I know you all have absolutely the best chaperones! The Hofstetters can't thank them enough. Love the group shot of the adults -- very cool. Hey ROSE: I taped the Jimmy Fallon show because Idina Menzel Menzel was singing with Jimmy Fallon and his band The Roots. It was awesome and of course she sang "Let it Go" from "Frozen". Totally rockin'. You will love it! This trip sounds so amazing -- love to hear you are cookin' in the kitchen -- we will expect some Costa Rican inspired meals when you get home! Hey.. Dad bought Lenny the wrong cat food. He didn't buy the orange bag and Lenny -- well -- he's been in a BAD PLACE. Dad bought him the "Hair ball Care" food which is similar to diet cat food -- Lenny has been pushing papers off desks and sitting with his back towards us. I finally figured it out. I told Lenny that I will go buy the orange bag after work -- but he is not talking to us -- not even a meow. We tried moving the cat tower into Grace's room to appease him. He will be very glad to see you as I am sure he has a lot to complain about. Have a fabulous day today! Will post later. Great post Avery, Kate and Sam -- I bet those brownies were delicious! Love, Mom/Mrs. Hofstetter

  2. Avery, I am very sad to announce that you were NOT invited to join the cast of DWTS Season 18. I'm sorry, honey, I know you're crushed.

    Actor Billy Dee Williams
    Swimmer Diana Nyad
"Real Housewife of Atlanta" NeNe Leakes

    Ex-hockey player Sean Avery
    Comedian Drew Carey
    Actress Candace Cameron Bure

  3. Hi Everyone!
1-D has been checking your blog and all of your experiences and we have a couple questions for you...
    1. Paxton wants to know if there were any alligators near where you sleep?
    2. Antony wants to know if you saw any snakes?
    3. Autumn wants to know if anyone was scared on the zipline and who was upside down?
    4. Lilee wants to know if the bridge you walked over during horseback riding felt like it was going to break?
    5. Macy wants to know if it was fun jumping off the waterfall?
The first graders are 50/50 as far as wanting to go to Costa Rica when they are in 8th grade. Some think it looks too scary, so you'll have to share how wonderful it is when you come back to SMS.
Please tell Adonis and Jordan hello from Suzanne. They are the best!
I know your trip is ending soon, but thank you for sharing your adventures with us. Happy and safe travels home.
Mrs. Doyle and her first graders

    1. Hello 1D!
Thank you so much for asking many questions. Here are our answers!

Paxton, unfortunately there aren't alligators where we sleep but when we were traveling to Morgan's Jungle Lodge from the airport, we were able to walk across a bridge where underneath where alligators and crocodiles. It was very cool! Thanks for your question!

Anthony we saw many snakes here, but mostly they have decided to hang around in trees. There weren't many in the lodge but there were some when we were hiking in the rainforest. Thanks for asking!

Hey Autumn! Zip-lining was very fun and most of us were excited. Thankfully, if someone was scared or nervous, we would gladly cheer them up. There weren't many people that decided to go upside down on the zipline but Avery was one of them! Thanks for asking us!

Greetings Lilee! The bridge we crossed while horseback riding was over a small creek and it sometimes swayed from side to side. Mostly everyone thought it was going to break but don't worry, we didn't lose anyone! Thank you for your interesting question!

Hi Macy! Jumping off the waterfall was very fun. It was very hot while we were walking in the creek and it felt really good to cool off in the refreshing waterfall. It was amazing to jump with friends and the beautiful scenery of nature. If you happen to be in Costa Rica, be sure to try that! Thank you so much for asking!

From all of us eighth graders, we thank you for asking us your many interesting questions. It feels good to know that our family at St. Mary is missing us! See you all very soon! We miss you a lot!

      Pura Vida,

The Eighth Grade Costa Rica Travelers

P.S. Mrs. Doyle- Adonis climbed a coconut tree on our beach hike and shouted "Hello Mrs. Doyle!!!" Did you hear it? :)

  10. We are looking forward to seeing all of you at home, and hearing more of your stories. It has been wonderful reading what was written and seeing all of the photos of all of you enjoying on your adventure. However, I need to see pictures of anyone eating bugs for me to believe any of you really did that! Enjoy your last couple of days. Ann Howard

  11. Sam- So did you hit enter on the post or maybe go all out and put the exclamation point after the Hello Cincinnati? I hope you have become accustomed to all the girls because Allison has moved in several friends while you have been gone. Its much easier for them to stay here and commute to school since we live so close. I'm sure you won't mind having an extra 14 girls around the house. We hope Dad has showered thoroughly before you have to ride on the bus with him. We may need to tie him to the top of the car on the way home from the airport if he has any more primate encounters. Have a great last day. We can't wait to see both of you. All St. Mary Columbus Basketball Tournament .... Here we come so you better rest up on the plane.
