Day 2 - Cate and Meme

Hola amigos!
We are having a trip of a lifetime.  We started the day off with breakfast at 6:30 AM.  The breakfast was amazing, we had crepes, eggs, sausage, and fruit.  We then said adios to the wonderful Domilocos Hotel.  We got on the bus and headed off to the Hacienda Baru, a wildlife reserve. The wildlife was just spectacular with its bright colors.  We saw monkeys and a sloth (Cate's favorite part).  On our bus ride, we saw many palm tree plantations.  We ate lunch at Las Palmas which overlooks the ocean.  We finally arrived at Morgan's Jungle Lodge after two long days of travel.  We met Panama, a crested guan which is a chicken-like bird.  Panama just started coming around last week.  The cabinas are very comfortable and are just steps from the beach.  Jackie and Joey cooked a fabulous meal of kabobs, bread, rice, fruit, and vegetables.  This was followed by Tres Leches, a fabulous dessert.  We cannot wait to experience the rest of Costa Rica.

Peace and blessings,
Cate Marx and Meme Habel

  1. Excellent. Keep the blog entries and pictures coming! It is an absolute great escape for us to hear all about what you guys have been up to each day while we deal with the incredible frigid overnight temps here in Cincinnati (13F here tonight & 7F Thursday night).

Enjoy the sounds of natures wake up call each morning at sunrise :)

    Pura Vida!

    1. As Mr. Hofstetter noted, it's freezing, the potholes are enormous, traffic is a headache and we miss you terribly. Nonetheless, Spring Training games start today - Reds vs. Indians at 3:00 pm!

      Enjoy paradise!

  4. Nice job, girls! Tres leches is one of my favorite desserts - I'm jealous! Glad to hear the accommodations are pleasant, Post pictures of these lovely cabinas! Loving hearing everything about your trip, thanks for sharing (even though it's difficult to imagine warm weather right now). Take care of each other and have an amazing day tomorrow. I hear the monkeys will get you up bright and early!

  5. Congrats on making it to Morgan's Jungle Lodge. It's a great home away from home! Wow- Uncle Randy is there! Hi Uncle Randy, are you still sleeping in the hammock? Have you seen or heard any monkeys yet? Jackie is an amazing cook! (So is Captain Morgan- his coffee is perfect every morning.) Have you met her daughters yet? I know the weather is better there, it's Wednesday morning and the temperature is a balmy 14 degrees! The 6 ISSE delegates (Grace Doyle is one of them!) are being blessed today before they leave for Mexico City on Saturday morning. The pictures look great and bring back wonderful memories. I'm glad Miss Kelly is taking good care of you- she is an expert traveler! Miss Kelly, Rosemary, Cate & Meme did a great job with the blog so far. Keep us updated so I can show my first graders your amazing trip.
    Pura Vida! Mrs. Doyle

  6. Good Morning, Costa Ricans! I'm very curious as to what time the monkeys woke you up this morning and if they would make a better alarm clock than what Lucie has at home. She never seems to hear it! Were there any surprises in the "shoe check" this morning?

Mr. Roberts and I are so jealous of the warm weather in Costa Rica and are so tired of the FREEEEEEZING temperatures that have returned that we have decided to go to Florida this weekend. The beach pictures on this blog sealed the deal, so thanks and keep them coming!

  7. Meme! I love that you are trying new foods besides dino nuggets.
Glad you are all arrived safe and sound. I am very jealous that you are so close to the beach. Take lots of pictures, Annie will want to see them when her best friend gets home.
Have a blast and keep the updates coming!

  8. Meme- I'm sorry to hear that you didn't get to have chocolate milk aka the only "breakfast" you ever eat but it sounds like it was a feast. I remember all the monkeys. They are so cute! (And loud...) I can't wait to hear about all of your adventures. I'm so happy for you all!

  9. Meme!?! Is that you?? Cate must have been in charge of recapping the breakfast. It is COLD here - Nala barely got a walk down the street this morning because I was too cold to go any further. I keep looking at your pictures and pretending I am in the sunshine and on the beach too! I am SO jealous! Have a GREAT time - don't forget your promise to me! :)

    I love you!
